Welcome to Santarém!
Santarém is located in the heart of the Amazon region, and at the confluence of rivers Tapajós and Amazonas.
Former Indian village of Tapajós, Santarém was founded in 1661 by the Jesuit priest Felipe Betendorf and is now the second largest city in the state of Pará
All the biodiversity of the Amazon can be found here in habitats as:
Tropical forest, flooded forest (igapó), cerrado and a mild climate all year round.
The meeting of the transparent blue waters of the Tapajós with water barrentas the Amazon, which run side by side for several kilometers away without misturarem, can be seen in the city.
